It's a Bank Holiday Monday here today meaning that it is a public holiday.
I'll be choosing my route to work carefully today in order to miss any potential queues for a large car boot sale, a large music concert and old steam engines travelling to the largest steam fair of its type in the World;
On my desk is a magazine and in it is an article about a place I know pretty well. Despite being only quite a short article there are three glaring historical errors.
Do you often see factual errors in articles you have encountered?
Me, too. I'm a spelling and grammar nerd, and I am amazed at the number of published works with errors in them that any reasonably well-educated copy editor ought to have caught before the book went to press. For example, using the word capitol instead of capital to mean the center of something. Or just plain wrong information that should have been fact-checked. It drives me crazy!
When I was working for a TV station, I used to be the graphics operator. Before every broadcast I would go through everything in advance, checking the "supers" (lower third identifying information like names and locations, full screen sports and weather graphics, etc.). I would then leave a note for the producer listing any mistakes or omissions so they could re-enter the information correctly in the computer. That job in itself would take me almost as long as the broadcast itself because there were always so many errors!
how about this one............anyone for anus beef. LOL!!
You know I'm guilty and I don't really pay attention to misspells so I don't get bent out of shape.
what bothers me are people who make a big deal over nothing.
such as our media.......BIG story and get everyone all hyped up over nothing just for a story.
got a funny one to tell you
I posted virtual pasteries in a chat and misspelled pasteries.
it was pasties.
It's irritating for me to see misspelled names of towns and errors, in our local newspaper. The new people they hire must be from 'elsewhere'. Glaring errors I see are:
1) Camden-Wyoming is a town - No. Camden is a town, and Wyoming is a town.
2) Many times, they still spell Rehoboth as RehobEth
3) They still can't get it that the City of Milford is spread over 2 counties, Kent & Sussex
On and On it goes. You would think a local newspaper would be up on local spellings and locations.
Watching TV with him or going to the movies with him were interesting. I can still hear him during shows with aircraft and pilots involved. "YOU CAN'T DO THAT !!!" ahahahahaha.
Well the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. I do the same thing regarding Social Security issues. I know the laws. I find myself saying to the TV "That is NOT true." ROFL
