Hello, kids! Scroll on down for Today's Tip.

HOMEMADE SHAMPOO

You can avoid irritating ingredients, fillers and unappealing scents in shampoo by preparing your own mixture using all natural ingredients. You can leave your homemade shampoo scent-free or add any scent you like. The recipes below will clean and soften your hair. Plus it costs much less to make than you spend on commercial shampoos.

If you have normal hair, use this recipe:
  • 1/4 cup distilled water
  • 1/4 cup liquid Castile soap*
  • 1/2 teaspoon jojoba, grapeseed or other light vegetable oil
Mix the ingredients together and store them in a small bottle. Shake the shampoo before use. This shampoo is thinner than commercial shampoos, so you don't need to squirt the bottle onto your hair. As soon as you tilt it, the shampoo will come out. A small amount does the trick, since the shampoo doesn't contain fillers. You'll get plenty of lather.

If you have dry hair, use this recipe:
  • 1/4 cup distilled water
  • 1/4 cup liquid Castile soap*
  • 1/4 cup aloe vera gel
  • 1 teaspoon glycerin
  • 1/4 teaspoon avocado oil or jojoba oil
Mix the ingredients and store in a bottle. Shake well before use. Work it into your hair and let it sit for a few minutes before rinsing it out with cool water. Your hair will be moisturized and soft.

*You can purchase liquid Castile soap at drugstores and big box stores such as Walmart and Target. It comes unscented or scented; choose your favorite.

Interesting tip Pam!

Are suppliers and made in one of the same?

What about a substitute product?

I wonder if it would work for dogs? It takes half a bottle of dog shampoo to wash Howie with all the Wookie fur.

A couple of years ago I was helping out a local company that were importers of aromatherapy products and I made up my own shampoo and other products.

Trouble is I'm now hooked on products made by a well known French company that have stores everywhere.

If you do make your own stuff avoid anything with parabens in it.

Thanks. I will be sure to check the lable. So sad we have to do that today.

Stay warm! I don't even have the heart to tell you our temps but I have been in short sleeves all year. My heart goes out to those getting the Canadian chill.
