It is interesting to look back and read about the events that occurred during the year someone was born. We usually are not aware of those past happenings that may have helped shaped our world. Some good, some way not so good. Take a look and share what y'all find. Oughta be some fun. The youngest around here will really think of some of us as being way to old to even use a keyboard let alone read.

Oh, my great events:

1. Spanish Civil War breaks out
2. German troops occupy the Rhineland
3. Hoover Dam is completed
4. Italy completes conquest of Abyssinia
5. Olympic Games held in Berlin and Jesse Owens wins 4 Gold Medals
6. First Edition of LIFE magazine is published

and last, by not least:
7. First Stock Car race held at Daytona Beach. Yea...Since I raced stock cars for 2 years in my 'younger' daze. In St, Louis, Alton and Springfield, IL. Talk about thrills.

Okay, anyone else brave enough to post their fascinating events?

Default Oh no!

Depressing to look at the history that birth year. No wonder my parents were so happy to see me. I can’t imagine living in those days and trying to raise a family. On the bright side however I always enjoy buying an old copy of LIFE magazine as a gift for friends who have birthdays. I’m lucky that there’s an antique store nearby with one vendor sells this old stuff and has lots of it. You know your old when your friends go to antique stores to get you gifts!

I know about the 'old' magazines. Have sold quite a few on ebay. Even sold a McCalls for over $70. I still have many others to put on there. When I get the time.

- Exxon Valdez oil spill takes place.
- The largest prison riot in British history takes place in Manchester.

Great Events During Your Birth Year
How am I supposed to remember? I was too young!

Actually I was born in October of 1956, and from what mom and dad tell me, Dwight D. Eisenhower was President of the United States, Elvis Presley released his first gold album, the movie The Ten Commandments (Charlton Heston and Yule Bryner) was made that year. Two planes collided over the Grand Canyon in northern Arizona, a TWA Lockheed 1049 Constellation and a United Douglas DC-7 crossed paths and collided, then crashed into the Grand Canyon. This happened about 4 months before I was born, and only 185 miles from where I was born.
TWA & United collision over Grand Canyon

World events, there was a war in the middle east between Israel and its neighbors, Fidel Castro was coming into the picture.
