They were said to be a hazard to wildlife. Once in a while, you would read about someone who put the tab into the can, and then ended up ingesting it.

When there was no debit or credit cards. You pay in cash or write a check.

When there was no email or text messaging you could send someone a very fast written message- it was called a Telegram. Hand delivered.

There were no cameras in stores or on any buildings. Only the bank had a camera.

"Film at 10" meant the tv station had video of a news story but had to develop the film first.
And the banks that did have cameras, used low resolution black and white cameras shooting one frame every few seconds so they could make one video cassette last all day. LOL.

I believe that was the plastic six pack rings, not the pull tabs, that was linked to that problem.

Point being I believe it was plastic six pack rings that were determined to be a threat to wildlife, not pull tab rings. That ideology developed in the late 1980s.

From my memory the reason for getting rid of detachable pull tabs was to reduce unsightly litter. In the 1970s litter was the main social concern. Keeping the environment pleasing for humans to look at. That developed in the 1980s to protecting the environment and wildlife.

At least that is the way I remember it.

I'm so old I remember being that attendant.

Looking for the hidden gas doors in the new models was always exciting. And never, never, never walk in front of a little old lady or old man driving an Olds with a sharp hood ornament.

The grocery shop nearby had no trolleys/carts just a small basket to buy few things at a time.

I remember when the manager of one of the gas stations in town had his daughter work as an attendant. Having a female attendant was something new and different. He ended up being fired by the company, not because his daughter had been an attendant, but because he was a cantankerous old coot and the station was under-performing.
