Many customers don’t tip much, fewer customers, and a long time between crowds coming in. The tips don’t average out very well in most eating establishments. High-end places make out a little better however not everyone can get a job waiting tables there.
Being a waiter or waitress isn’t just taking and order and bringing it out. Knowing when to return to check on the customers is important, as well as having a friendly attitude are important assets of the trade. I don’t like being smothered by them coming back every five minutes checking on things, but I want to have good service on refreshing the drinks etc.
