We were talking about those couples who sit next to each other VS across from one another while dining out. Why does this bug me so much? My wife and I are both bothered by it as is a few others we discussed it with. Now, if there are other people or kids with them it's different, but just seeing a couple by themselves at a table/booth next to each other for some reason it's just unsettling. Call me crazy, hell, call me anything you want but at least I can look across the table at the person I'm dining with
This subject also reminds me of back in the day when it was "cool" to sit next to your girlfriend/boyfriend in the car or truck. If I were to see a couple sitting like that today It would be make me laugh!.....
My wife and I have been married for 35 years and friends for 43. Sometimes we sit opposite each other and sometimes we sit next to each other. It doesn't mean a thing either way and it doesn't matter to us what anyone thinks about it. If it bothers anyone, that's too bad. Don't them not look at us. With so many other problems in this world, how we sit in a restaurant is meaningless.

Ok, I'm gonna come clean here. One of my biggest reasons for sitting side by side is my b/f isn't very appealing looking when he's eating. He takes two bites at once and his lips stick waaaaaaay out when he's chewing and he takes a sip of something as soon as he puts food in his mouth. It drives me absolutely insane. If we sit side by side, I don't have to worry about looking up and witnessing that while I'm trying to eat. There. I said it. So, yes, we like to be close, but my reason for that and his reason for that differ greatly.
Thank you Whyte Byrd! I've given up on the Couples Who Don't Have Children thread but knew there was a reason to keep coming back to this one. You just gave it to me - thanks for the giggles - your secret is safe with me!

LOL Well thank you for that, now that I'm all out there--kind of like Kramer on Seinfeld when he was 'out there' (his no underwear phase).
I like sitting next to my wife like that in a restraunt, to me its apart of the intimacy that is in our relationship. Now sometimes the tables are not as long, (although it can sit 4 people), to sit by her comfortably in which I will sit across from her.
Well, having read this thread and watched it evolve, there are some folks who like to sit opposite, some who like to sit next to ... and some with whom I wouldn't want to be in the same restaurant!
Good Morning Charley!! I'll sit next to you any day as long as your wife doesn't get jealous!
Hope you are feeling well....you're still in my prayers.
