I'm a single mom working in the federal gov't in Hull (now referred to as Gatineau). I own a home on the Ottawa side in Hintonburg and the property taxes are riDONKulous! (4K/year) and they're only going to get worse.
I'm looking for some insight to the benefits/drawbacks financially of moving/buying in Gatineau (Plateau area) as opposed to just renting to maybe check it out and see if I can deal with the differences.
I make 80K and have a child under the age of 18, I've got a car... what am I looking at here...anybody know? I'm trying to decide whether to take the leap and move to Gatineau and rent, or dive right in and buy or just stay in Ottawa.
Insight...anybody?
