Boys will be boys. No sexual intent was meant and should certainly not be punished as such. The fact that these kids were put on the sex offender registry for life is just insane and unjust. This was not a sexual offense. Another failure of our justice system. If they raped him or forced him to perform a sex act it would be different, but they didn't. So frigging stupid.
If this were done to any of my three sons, I would be furious. Would I press charges? Absolutely not. Would I call the parents of the teens who did it and let them know about it? Of course. People are too free to sue people these days and it is out of control. If they beat the pulp out of the kid it would be a different story, then it would mean they meant to harm him. I don't think they meant any harm, let alone sexual intent. Boys are gross. Maybe they were bullying him, but really? Sex offenders at 14 and for life? Disgusting.
If two girls did this to another girl would they be sex offenders as well? Or if two girls did this to a boy? Probably not.

I agree with some of what you said, but if it had happened to any of my kids, I would press charges. But, they wouldn't be sex offender charges, they would be for assault. I do not see sexual intent, but I know others do.
The laws vary so widely across the country, it's difficult to keep up. This past weekend I read a story about several ( I think it was 22) students charged with "sexting" in VT. They were sending nude pictures to each other, in other words, what constitutes child porn. But, it was only brought up as a misdemeanor in VT.
14 year olds are kids. They are not physically or emotionally ready for the adult world, including adult consequences. It should be punished - under a bullying statute. Lifetime sex offender registry? There should really be a minimum age to that - 16 or 18 in my opinion.

The registry is a bad idea to begin with, at least if they aren't also going to have registries for drunk drivers, bad check writers, spouse beaters, etc.
Until someone has seen a friend or family member go through the humiliation of registration, they simply have no idea.

Another one of those "moral panic" laws enacted since the 1990s. One of my ways of determining whether I think a law is a good idea is the "1985" test. If the law was in force in 1985, it's probably a good idea. If it was enacted after 1985, it's probably a bad idea.

Another test: Any law named after a person is a bad law.

Tends to be true as well. Of course, both rules have exceptions: 85-90% of laws in force in 1985 were good, whereas 95%+ passed since 1990 have been bad. 1985-1989 was a gray area.
The trial court found that while the boys placed their buttocks on (or above) the victims’ faces, at least one of the boys’ penises touched the lips of a victim and might have parted the lips. Although that contact was unintended, it raises the act from horseplay and bullying to a more serious offense.
He put his bare butt on school mate's faces?? Sorry, he earned the title sexual offender. Seriously, he's old enough to know you don't pull down your pants and shove your junk in someone elses face. It's not just his butt (This is offensive enough and carries the possibility of spreading e-coli to the poor person being held down) he shoved in their faces. There would have been a few other dangly parts as well. This kid is sick and this is assault. What's he going to do next for a kick?
You don't assault people and shove your naked butt and private parts in their faces. Well, normal people don't. There needs to be some title that alerts people that this is a person who assaults others and does disgusting things to them. Currently, the only one we have is sexual offender and this is sexual assault. There's nothing else to call having someone held down while you shove your naked butt and private parts in their face. Where did this kid ever get the idea this kind of behavior is ok?
