^ I am really just speaking in a general way about worrying too much about a child's safety, not so much about kidnappings in particular. And because of today's ratings-driven and sometimes plain unethical "news" divisions of the major networks, it seems like as soon as one kid is found they find another one to report on for the next six months, during newscasts, the ticker running under unrelated shows, etc etc just a constant stream of tacky/sensational reports that IMO could cause one to think it's happening everywhere & all the time, even though it's happening in a country of 300,000,000+ people.

i dont see how knowing where my child is equals wrapping the child in bubble wrap. she can still do anything she would ever do, but if she is missing for whatever reason, i should be able to find her more easily.

Your child is a toddler. When do you not know where s/he is?

so far i always do, and i always plan to. but things happen even to the most careful parents and i wouldnt mind having that as a back up. i did see that 800,000 children are reported missing each year (most probably for short times and non-dangerous reasons) but it was enough for the parents to call the police, so they probably would have liked to look at their phone and seen a location.

when i compare this to other safety/insurance things i do to protect myself, family and belongings it seems like it makes sense to me. i have onstar in my car so stealing it is pretty much impossible but really if my car got stolen it wouldnt bother me much.

They have all kinds of devices with GPS in them for kids, including watches which i think are neat. I don't think it's a bad idea because what if your kid is snatched and you have this, and instantly the police can find out where to go.
