This too. My teens need to be showered and "in bed" by 9:30; later if there is sports or other activities. Do I think they go to SLEEP at 9:30? No. No I don't. LOL! But we do shut off wifi at 9:30 and lights are out at 9:30. They get up around 6 a.m. for school.

Am I just going crazy or is that SUPER early? That's almost unfathomable to me.

When I was little we normally ate dinner at 6:30 or 7. How does this kid even have a chance to do his homework?
6:30 or 7 seems a bit early for bed for me but I don't worry that much about what other people do.

We get home at 5:30-5:45- do homework, eat dinner, shower, read, bed. She's in bed by 7:30. We even do girl scouts from 6:30-7:30 on Thursdays and on those days she is in bed by 8.
So you want to spend no more than an hour and a half with her every day and all of it rushed?

I can see if parents have spent hours with the child and they don't want to spend any more time with them, that they send them to bed.

Went to bed at 7:30pm until I was 9.
School started at 7:30 in the morning and was out at 1:30.

What is the big deal?

I'm not sure.

When I was growing up we ate dinner at 4:30. Families do what works for them. It worked for us.

That's just uncalled for.

Wtf are you talking about?
Our son is up at 0600 and to bed at 1900.
One of us is with him pretty much at all times.
No one is avoiding him.
What a weird thing to say.
He is obviously and noticeably more cheerful and happier when he is well-rested.

I doubt the parents are trying to spend the least amount of time possible with their children. They are just doing what is best for their family. If you know your child needs a certain amount of sleep to function (and not have meltdowns throughout the day) then you are going to be setting their bedtime based on that. With school, or when both parents are working, you don't really get to be flexible with their wake up time. If they need 10 hours of sleep, and have to get up at 5:30 for school/daycare/babysitter, then they are going to be going to bed at 7:30.

When our 9 year old was 7 he went to bed at 7 on school nights. Now it's 8. Our rule is we can't force him to fall asleep and he can read, draw, etc... But that's the time for bed. On non school nights he stays up until 9-930. Never had a complaint from him.
