Last nught was my little guy's first night in a toddler bed, and at 4:30am I heard little feet running all around (his room is above mine) and then some choo-choos on the widnow sill. LOL. He fell back asleep before 5am, but I never did. Gah!

I am using the closed door technique, as the back in bed method wasn't working.

So he was up for about 30 minutes and settled back to sleep himself?
I don't see what the problem is.

Not sure what you see as the problem. He didn't leave his room (whigh I assume is completely toddler proofed)....he played appropriatelyfor a bit and fell back to sleep.....you did not mention that he was screaming like a banshee.. what are you expecting?

I agree with the others, not a bad first night. If playing in the middle of the night with toys continues to be an issue, I'd remove everything but a snuggle friend and books.

I would love it if my toddler did this! Instead he comes into my room screaming hi mommy, hi daddy.

Sounds like a good transition if he's not making a fuss about it. A bit of playing in the middle of the night is to be expected when its all new. Mine played instead of getting in the bed and would fall asleep in all kinds of odd positions around the room - it was adorable!

Just get some ear plugs so his running around doesn't wake you and leave him to it, he'll get bored of it soon enough and just go back to sleep.

My daughter was told that she couldnt get out of bed and play til morning (when it was light). I woke up very startled one morning around two am - her lights, our lights and the hallway lights were on.... My 3YO announced proudly "I MAKE morning!"

We never had the problem of our toddler getting out of bed (partially due to the fact that he still wears a toddler size sleep sack, so he doesn't like trying to walk in it), but when we first transitioned him to the bed, he would wake up around 5am and cry for our attention because he didn't have any concept of what time it is. This also coincided with winter, when the nights are very long in MN.

After struggling for weeks trying various things to keep him in bed until 6am, we finally bought a toddler training clock that has a nightlight that switches from a "sleeping bunny" to an "awake bunny" at the time you choose. Within 2 days, he understood the concept and kept sleeping until the bunny was awake.
