I think the selective deafness comes from parenthood, or possibly marriage.

I've had selective deafness since childhood - it also comes from parents who talk too much and tell terrible jokes!

My 5 yo is a whiz at those - I think he's actually faster than me.
My kids are fast at it too. The only thing is no matter how much I tell my daughter not to pick up stuff off the scale, she always does it. The last time we used a self check out people near by got to see me throw a temper tantrum!

You guys don't know what Tourette's actually is, do you?

He tried to commit suicide a few times.

The lack of understanding and compassion on this thread blows me away. Let's laugh at Parkinson's or Alzheimer's while we're at it.

You are technically correct.... Let's use the term coprolalia instead, to be more accurate. No need for clinomorphisms in any thread.
Feel better?

Oh dear...of course, we have to change the subject and turn politically correct to avoid the point.

How about this...I won't pretend anything...but next time that a whining/screaming/otherwise annoying child is near me in a public setting, I'm going to start rambling out as many curse words as I can.

People should just deal with it, and if it's the worst thing that the parent has to deal with all week, then they don't have it too bad.

That's the problem. It may be easy for you. But it's not easy for everyone.

Believe it or not, everyone is not used to children for whatever reason. And there is really nothing wrong with that - it just is.

Those preaching about empathy would do well do practice it themselves.

I'm sure that after 24 pages, your point has been made. I'm just pointing out the complete ignorance of a neurological disorder that debilitates the lives of people. If you think that is "politically correct", whatever, carry on in life. You want people to be respectful of you, but you aren't willing to extend the same courtesy.

I consider myself a very courteous parent. My autistic child is made to sit quietly at McDs or leave. He is to walk with me, quietly, and says please or thank you. He has never been to a real restaurant or theatre like other kids. He is moderate on the spectrum. Such work costs me a fortune in therapy and constant vigilance. My life is exhausting.

All I ask, in return, is respect by not using such ignorant statements about disabled people. If you are here to release your hatred with no intention to learn new things, then just say so.

Cannot stand when kids are running around screaming in public unless it's the park etc. You know, grocery stores, restaurants.
