It's a toy. It's fun. It's the perfect game for 15 year old sleepovers. When my daughter gets to that age, I'm totally getting her one. There's no such thing as ghosts, lol. Just kids having a good time.

A piece of wood isn't going to bring spirits into your home, the board has no power.

I don't believe that but if that was true I would want it even more. It would be real solid proof to me if I could talk to the dead.

I would.

In my day, we would cut the head off a goose and let it flap around the yard. whichever direction it landed dead, we would watch the sky and interpret the flight patterns of birds.

Otherwise, we would cut chips from the branch of a birch tree and inscribe runes thereon. We would prick our fingers and stain the runes with blood before casting them upon a cloth to reveal their secrets.

Some piece of plastic crap from Milton-Bradley that you buy at Toys 'R' Us? You must be joking.

The game has no power beyond what the users bestow upon it, and I'm amazed people think otherwise. Personally, I played it as a kid, but I thought it was dumb, because I never believed the person I was playing with wasn't moving the triangle.

It wouldn't bother me at all to find kids playing with one, but if it was an original, I'd sell it. They're going for big money online!

I've never played with one.

But, I've known enough otherwise skeptical, educated people that aren't fans of them for reasons stated above.

I had a teacher, with at least one masters degree, who said that it cracked in half when his aunt asked if he (my teacher would become a priest.) The scary thing? He went into the Seminary for years but the Diocese washed out half the class as they were producing too many priests at the time.

Oh please. When I was a kid, everybody played with the Ouija board, and nobody took it seriously. And, as far as I know, none of my friends ended up a Satanist. People who claim to have "scary" experiences with them have psychological problems. I think your wife is being beyond ridiculous.

Allowing children to kill animals for "fun" is far more creepy than any ouija board.

Your wife probably had a scary experience with one as a youngster. If someone is going "Whoooo, whooo," and acting like the thing is moving itself, a younger kid can get a bit freaked out.

BUT - I find it very hard to believe that any grownup could think these mass-produced toys can actually do anything by themselves.

She needs to get over her own fears and not impart them to her kids.
