It stops being SYG when the perp is fleeing. Thean was running away when Dad shot at him.

Dad should have called the cops, had the man arrested for statutory rape or child molestation if they hadn't gone far enough for statutory rape yet. He shouldn't have assaulted him, shouldn't have shot at him. Would you be thinking Dad had the right to beat him and shoot at him if the guy had been a 15 or 16 or 17 year old boy, covered by the Romeo and Juliet statutes?

No, a 20 year old shouldn't be going after a 14 year old, but it's not as if this would be the first time. And the girl was willing and eager, snuck him into the house.

I wonder how the man would have reacted had he found a 16 year old boy in his daughter's bedroom. Would he have also tried to kill a teenage boyfriend of his daughter's?

The Fox story says the prosecutors would not have pressed charges against the father if the beating had ended with the man running out the window of the girl's bedroom, after being severely beaten. You can't chase someone down the street shooting at them.

Did he have any idea, as would be indicated in the police report, that he had found an adult man with his teen daughter? Instead of a peer boyfriend?

Once fleeing from property, the use of gun fire is not covered under the castle law.
It is only to be used within the confines of livable habitat.

From a legal stance I hope that if it does go to trial that the jurors who take an oath, follow the law.

The emotions are to be considered after the verdict and at sentencing.

Assault is assault. Its who threw the first punch that needs verified.

.
And because of the 14 year old, her father may go to jail. She needs to be punished severely. Take away all her electronic devices to start with.

No, the father may go to jail because he attempted to shoot a fleeing man in the back. He had every right to defend his daughter, and if the guy had come at dad, or continued to molest daughter, in the house or yard, dad would have had every right to shoot him, and kill him. But you aren't allowed by law to shoot someone running away as they are not a threat to the shooter.

What if it was the other way round with the genders switched. A 14 yr old boy and a 20yr old woman.

She didn't force him to take a shot at the guy when he was already running away. That was dad's choice entirely.

And did Dad lay down the law regarding dating or not? WhenI was her age, 30+years ago, my parents laid it down, no boys AT ALL until I was at least 16 years ago, and if I did something stupid they weren't going to raise a 2nd generation. That was all I needed to hear to keep me in line. My 1st date was 2 months before I graduated high school.
