Churches are not ran on faith, they are ran on money.

As fast as you can generate money, the church can spend it.

They don't usually spend it on the obvious like heat and air conditioning - at least not the catholic ones anyways. They always cry poor and they are always looking for new ways to generate money.

As far as bars goes, there are townships where I live where it is a dry township where there are no bars or clubs. At the same time, there are towns where there is more bars then churches.

Just because a bar is there, doesn't mean the town is full of drunks.

A main means of socialization when I was a kid was to go to bars in a college town and drink with the other people my own age. Once in a while, you even get lucky and find nice people. Indiana PA is ranked as one of the top 10 party towns in the USA as far as colleges goes.

Well, we happen to be some of those Catholics you're referring to.

I asked for advice on how to meet people in the area, not for someone to make rude comments about religion. I didn't really expect this thread to go in that direction.

Thanks for those who gave advice about the parks and rec though. We'll definitely look into it.
