Here is a link to an article that ran in yesterday’s Pocono Record: http://www.poconorecord.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20110710/NEWS/107100346

It is about the golf/sewage director of Middle Smithfield Township in Monroe County. She averaged almost $1100 dollars a week in overtime pay for a forty week period. What makes this story particularly disturbing is that she is salaried for a 30 hour work week and has been working over 42 hours a week. She was hired at a $90,000 yearly salary.

The federal government only stipulates that you pay overtime over 40 hours. I am curious where this new practice came from?

I am starting this thread because I am also curious if we have other townships and municipalities like this one? I am also afraid that, if this township gets away with this; that others will follow out of greed.

Government does not know how to balance a checkbook and practices like this one do not help!

Golf and sewage would be two bad things to get mixed up. Need to have a professional on the job to keep those duties straight.

Boompa,

It is a salaried position - it pays $90,000 per year. This is just a little $50,000 extra in overtime for her nest egg!

Salaried do not get Overtime
they work for a flat salary, i.e. management

Boompa,

This job does. Here is the opening line from that original Pocono Record link I posted: “How's $1,094 in overtime a week sound on top of a $90,000 annual salary?”

I am still curious if there are any other sweetheart deals like this?
