I am planning on begining to look for my first home soon, and since I will be working in the Naval Yard I am looking to possibly move from Bucks County down to Delaware County to cut down on my commute.

I am single and will most likely be looking for a condo in the $100K range. From doing some research I know I want to avoid Camden and Darby, but are there any other areas of Delaware County that are starting to go bad like Philadelphia and should be avoided?

I have seen that it looks like area like Brookhaven might fit what I am looking for. Is this a good town to move into? Also, are there any other places in the area that are good communities that are not overly expensive?

Thanks.

You may want to consider Secane, Norwood, Glenolden as well as Brookhaven. Broomall and Havertown are nice but they may be above your price range. Ridley Park has a few rough areas but most of Delaware County is still pretty nice. Good luck.

PS: Not ALL areas of Philly are bad, but condos in the better neigborhoods are expensive.

Brookhaven will get you a good bang for your buck. Its a stable safe town although not terribly exciting. They have an extensive condo complex (Hilltop?) that is older but in excellent condition.

I would avoid Darby,Collingdale,Sharon Hill,Yeadon,Chester all of whom have seen much better days.

I agree with Rainrock - Hilltop condos is probably your best bet. Here's a sample that I just looked up for you (TO ADMIN: DO NOT REMOVE; I'M NOT A REALTOR, JUST HELPING OUT HERE)

While Brookhaven is indeed rather dull for a single person, Media is right down the street: a cut-through through Middletown, the neighboring community, where there is often live music and artistic displays. A really nice place to hang out. GOOD LUCK IN YOUR SEARCH.
