If you are talking about Monroe County, I think you mean Brodheadsville. I live a few towns over. It is a nice area - not as congested as other areas of the county, but it is growing as well. Decent schools, from what I've heard. A very nice high school - relatively new. Easy travel to larger areas.

I know I'm beating a dead horse here, but Luzerne and Lackawanna Counties offer the best of both worlds! Brodheadsville is located in the southern part of Monroe County, which is slowly but surely becoming a bedroom community to NYC. Here in my hometown of Pittston, we're just fifteen minutes from the urban conveniences of Scranton and Wilkes-Barre, yet we have NO crime, excellent schools, affordable housing, and plenty of open space (Traffic congestion is terrible though at rush-hour). If you're looking to commute to NJ/NYC, then I'd still recommend Brodheadsville/Monroe County. If you're not going to be working out-of-state, then give the areas just to the north and west of the Poconos a glance. ;o)
