I get $400 at a time out of the ATM which lasts me two weeks or more, and I use it for all gas, groceries, restaurant meals, and many other purchases. If something is going to be two or three hundred dollars, I whip out my credit card then pay the bill in full each month. Cash is also more efficient; you know it costs the merchant 3% every time a credit card is used.
Yes, and the merchant has included that 3% in the cost of groceries, meals, etc., as part of his overall overhead, so you in effect are paying that 3% for him. Why not use a credit card that rebates to you most of that 3% so you're not paying it? That's what I do. I use a credit card for virtually every purchase I make over $5. The credit card company rebates to me 2% of the total amount I charge each month and deposits it directly into my brokerage account. Every month I receive between $50 and $100 for using my credit card. And that's how much I'd be losing if I was paying for all my purchases with cash.
True, but what irritates me to no end is when a person waits for the cashier to finish ringing up the groceries, and then starts searching her purse for her checkbook. And once she locates the checkbook, she has to fill-out the entire check, including the payee line, as if it was a surprise to her that she'd be writing a check and to whom it would be addressed.
I've been behind folks who are just as slow using a debit card. They wait until all the groceries have been rung up, then pull out the card and punch sloooooowly at the card machine like they've never used one before.

And they NEVER remember their damn pin number.....
And in regards to people steaming at slow people.... I'm an active 51 year old, and I took a very very nasty fall 9 weeks ago. I am now that slow little old lady, and will be for some time, as my healing is SLOW.
I learned a few things that are very important.
1. With any amount of luck you all will be an old slow person, too. So suck it up. We're going as fast as we can with all the other crap we have to deal with and...
2. Everyone is slow somewhere. Why can't people drive the speed limit on city streets? Or actually put their foot on the gas pedal when the light turns green instead of coasting? Not everyone drives an automatic that goes by itself.
No need for checks or debit cards. Just carry a credit card and pay off your balance each month. Debit cards are less secure anyway; if someone gets a hold of your number, they are directly draining your bank accounts. I'd rather contest false charges with a credit card company.
Yea, except for the limit which you call to get lifted...
Shame on you and lot's of other selfish to much in of a hurry other people.
Wait your turn means WAIT YOUR FRICKING TURN!
After all when it's your turn you like to take your time....no?
No. Actually, I don't. I try to help make the process as speedy as possible, including bagging the rest of my groceries.
No one wants to stand in that irritating line while someone obviously married to the last century sits there and writes a freakin' cheque.
