Ordered a brand new pickup at age 17. Never had another new car in the subsequent 40+ yrs. What a waste, I went back to driving 15 - 65yr old vehicles. They have been good to me, they are metal, not plastic.... (3 million fleet miles without a trip to the fix-it shop.). My single new vehicle Lived at the fix-it shop. Sold it @ 10 yrs old. With only 34,000 miserable miles.

Going out to eat, traveling, gadgets etc I don't view any of it as a waste because I enjoy them

Buying a Tesla.....but I don't really see it as a complete waste given how much fun it was.....
The memories we had and experienceso we had (that we otherwise wouldn't have had) makes it less of a financial mistake.

Paying $100 per week for a pack a day habit (2016). Totally stupid. Could have saved a million over 40 years.
Buying a house and shouldering all the expenses.
Buying brand new cars instead of pre-used.
Drinking and bars.

In my adult life, I've spent at least 10% of my gross income on skiing. I've owned a vacation home for 24 years. All the automobile expenses. Season passes. Equipment. Clothing. My bar tab. Ski trips.

Hey....it's better than giving 10% of your money to the CHURCH!

Designed and built several cars as project cars when I was younger (E30 M3, E36 328, Porsche 911). The outcome was amazing and I learned a lot, but overall it was a negative business case. Lost time and money. Having said all of that, cars and technology are my hobbies and make my life more meaningful... so I guess this waste of money was worth it?
