I really never understand the outrage over tipping.
So I tip if someone performs a service for me.
I tip the grocery delivery
I tip the pizza guy
I pay for lunch a time or two for the guy who painted my house.
Now how much I tip is solely up to me. lately I have been tipping the grocery guy extra. heck I really don't want to be in a grocery store right now so I appreciate the work and the risk.
I've been tipping 10% on takeout since this whole Covid stuff hit (usually only do a couple of bucks if anything) and I've been out to eat once and I tipped a little over 25%. They are getting half the tables, so I feel if I want to take one up it's my responsibility to make sure they are well compensated. Either that or just have the restaurant do a per table Covid-19 surcharge. I'd be cool with that too.
I went out to eat for the first time over the weekend (in Westchester County, NY, right outside of NYC, outdoor dining has been open for a few weeks, and indoor dining just reopened last week). We ate outside, were the only ones there (it was 4pm on a Saturday, so we were in between "rushes"), and were so thrilled to be sitting at a table with someone bringing us food that was hot along with cocktails and no dishes involved that we left a $20 tip on a $60 bill.
