We had to pay on our taxes and had them done by someone.. were we supposed to direct him to "apply" for the stimulus check in someway? Check a box or something on our forms?? We didn't get ours yet and I was wondering why we weren't asked by our tax guy if we wanted direct deposit. I hope he didn't screw up!

I think I read it right on the website and the paper checks are just starting to be sent out..any input?

No, they come automatically. You don't have to do anything other than file your taxes. There are a lot of threads about this subject; however, all the answers to your questions are on the FAQ on the irs.gov website.

If you paid the tax prep fees out of your refund, you won't get direct deposit. Instead, you will be mailed a paper check. If you changed your bank account then you will get a paper check. Again, lots of info on the FAQ. Checks are distributed by the order of the last two digits of the taxpayer's SS number. If you filed jointly, whoever is listed first determines which SSN is used for distribution.
