Mcjobs are a dime a dozen, with Mcjob employers desperate for workers.
They're doing rolling interviews every day.
You could quit your job in the morning and be working at another place by the afternoon.
Yep. My youngest is working fast food for the summer to earn extra pocket money for his next year in college, and it's nearly impossible for the restaurant to hang onto employees. He's paid well, but the hours suck. His schedule is all over the place. He's young and has few other responsibilities, so he can roll with it, but I can't imagine what it would be like for someone with a family to take care of.
Especially people in service oriented jobs who barely even make enough to scrape by. How do some people who have rent payments, bills, kids to support etc just randomly not show up to work one day and/or just quit. Not having enough money to pay my rent/bills is enough to stress me out, but for some people it's no biggie. I don't get it?
Maybe they have FU money and thus do not need to tolerate poor treatment. It's a great position to be in.

Interesting comment from son who's COO / CFO of high tech with 100+ skilled employees.
The New normal...
1) ~20% less productive employees
2) ~20% additional wage requirements
3) ~80% less office space required
4) Can't afford to 'lose them' (~$50k and 2-4 yrs to train replacements, and 5+ yrs to adopt company culture and business direction)
They already had very liberal work requirements (flex hours, Unlimited vacation / sick leave, full benefits (including health club and recreation perks), choice of work-from-home or office. Amazon and Costco memberships provided...)
Tough to find good help anymore (there is none)
Wonder why?
Not me...
Quite a bonus time to be a worker in demand!

Meanwhile companies still enforce the catch-22 and wonder why they can't find anyone.

But they're still enforcing the catch-22. So they're not trying hard enough. Plenty of people willing to learn new skills and do career changes. They get hit by the catch-22.

Do you get paid for the amount of times you use the phrase catch 22?
First of all, if this was as widespread as you claim, the companies that do train people should be able to exploit this market failure, and crush their competition?
Secondly, when you hire for personal contracting jobs at your house or for your dental/medical care, do you go out of the way to hire people without exp, or do you apply the same filters?

What exactly is this "catch-22" you keep mentioning?
