I've decided I'm going to play Powerball from now on not because I like to waste money (I've never played the lottery), but because now that I'm retired, I've realized I'd love to spend the rest of my life just living in one luxury hotel room after another, and that would be the only way to do it, so thanks for the reminder! No scratch-offs, though.
All I'll say here is that the ratio of younger people I know that complain about being broke and the younger people I know that have a brand new generation iPhone and Apple watch every year is 100%, says the guy with a 5 year old iPhone 7 and no watch lol.
A younger employee of mine ordered sushi through Door Dash. It was $23.00, She got the delivery and noticed the order was wrong and that they had charged her $46.00. Now not only was her order wrong she said she only had $35.00 in her checking account where the debit card was tied to. I just bit my lip. I wouldn’t be ordering takeout with my checking account that low but that is me.
Different generations, I was brought up by parents who lived through the depression and they influenced me with their money wisdom.
Life is different now, discretionary spending and credit have made society’s spending habits so much different.

Reason: Off topic
I remember my coworker who got off the phone with a debt collection agency and immediately picked it up again to organize dinner out at a restaurant with friends. I honestly think a whole generation (or two or three by now) think that's where food comes from and that they'd starve to death without it. And now they can't even be bothered to go get it, but must have it brought to them, regardless of the cost.
"Life is different," but people are also dumber and more spoiled/entitled.

They can't be bothered to do a click-list and sit in the car while groceries are loaded in there?
Wow. The service is free, you don't even have to go in.
I am an attorney. People are almost always in loss-avoidance mode, and don't really expect to gain. For attorneys, they cry poverty. And yet they always have money for vacations.
I remember some news interview with a "poor" woman in Appalachia somewhere. She was standing on the porch of her decrepit, run-down house. She was very obese, giant bouffant hairstyle, long manicured, painted nails. She was crying about no money for a/c. Plenty of food and money for nail/hair salons though.
