I got three different checks as christmas gifts this year. I don't want to deposit them and then have to account for that money, just cash them and use the cash for something fun. So my question is=when I cash them, will that show up anywhere? On statements or reports?
The reason I ask is that we're currently filing for bankruptcy (yes, i know, whole other story there) and since it's a gift, i don't have to claim it as income, right?
The limits on what you get to leave in personal checking accounts should have been spelled out by your attorney: Bank Account Seizures
Simple answer is that as long as these checks are not so large to trigger Dept of the Treasury / Secret Service disclosure (ala Elliot Spitzer and his taste in girlfriends) you should be fine at a currency exchange or other place. If you go to your bank they will cash any check against your account...

I received a insurance check from Liberty bank. There are none in Indiana. The check Amount is not real big 1,100$. Will they still put a hold,on it? And can I cash it in Indiana?

You should be able to deposit it online, or mail it to them. Contact them to find out more.

Assuming you don't have a local account, use the check to open an account at a local Indiana bank. Yes, they might put a short hold on it before you can make any withdrawals.
If you do have an account, just deposit it like any other check.
I would probably check out the check cashing guy. Bankruptcy goes that way....Attorney told me I had to pay him cash about $3700 (7 years ago) then I needed 3 months of income cash to get through it. Paychecks going to checking get frozen sometimes...Just hide the money.

You should have started a new thread for this.
If you have a bank account, you simply deposit it like any other check. Depending on your relationship with the bank, the money might be placed on hold by the bank for several business days. I have a 20 year relationship with my bank, good credit, no issues like bounced checks, and direct deposit. Anything I deposit clears in one business day.
If you don’t have a bank account, you need to find someone who will cash the check. There is always someone who will do it but they’ll want a big fee and they may hold your money for a week+ to make sure the check clears.
