So if Health Care was provided by the State you wouldn't have that burden.
You can't have an economy based on borrowing money from China to spend it on Chinese Crap at WALMART. We need to produce products and keep wages high enough that we can afford them

Sounds good. But by definition, not everyone can have an above average income....although being a good saver could make up for that to some degree.

I agree. Personally, I'd skip or reduce paying on the wedding in order to pay for the other kids' college. Weddings last a day. The benefit of a college education (especially one with no or minimal debt) lasts a lot longer.

Yeah we would. We're soon going to find out that we're going to be taxed to the hilt to pay for state sponsored medicine. Take a look at the Europena countries....they all pay double digit sales taxes (often on services, not just goods) to pay for their health care. And you can be sure their income taxes aren't any lower than ours, either. I have serious doubts about whether it will be cheaper or better than the current mess we have.

This is the result of tax and financial policies that put the burden of our government on the working, labor and professional, classes and let the upper executive classes gamble away our savings. The rot started with Ronnie Raygun’s decision to borrow money for his useless military extravaganzas from the upper classes instead of taxing them on a pay as we go basis. The resulting debt has effectively crippled the working and middle classes in this country as it was designed to do. Some will call this class warfare but what else could it be called. It exists and it is working. And we are losing.
I see your point. But I think this goes both ways. Democrats have their pet programs that we pay through the nose for as well. They've known Social Security & Medicare have been on shaky financial ground for years. But their idea of health care reform is a government takeover and a huge tax increase (or even more debt) to pay for it all, even though we all know it is a wasteful and inexpensive system. We should be able to have 100% health care coverage for the amount we already pay.

As far as the current financial crisis goes, that was definitely a team effort. Republican Congress sponsored legislation in the 1990s to loosen credit standards for mortgages and Clinton signed. Same goes with Glass/Steagall being repealed in 1999.

I think we have to start seeing that there are two factions of the elite here (a socialist one and big business one), and they keep the population divided while fighting for power among themselves. We each see the other party's excess without seeing our own party's. That kind of division among the people has to end if we want to take back our government.

I keep wondering why so many young couples feel the need to have more than two or three children. Not only the expense, but considering the state of the world, it just doesn't make a lot of sense anymore.

???

I do not see what you mean.

If I were starting out again today, I could still see the purpose in having 5 kids or more.

The world has always been on the verge of some crises or on the verge of using up a resource. Always. Now it's oil. Before that it was coal. Before that, who knows? I'm sure there were many other shortages and noted famines through out history. There have always been illnesses and diseases. The world has always been brutal, wars have always been fought. Society has always been rough. It has always been difficult for many families to provide for a lot of children, but people kept having them, and many families wanted those children all through out history (and many didn't but also didn't have modern birth control to prevent pregnancy.)

My opinion is that the state of the world doesn't really make a difference in terms of an ethical decision about whether or not to have a big family. We can make smarter use of our resources but that doesn't mean families have to be smaller. I think, especially for industrialized countries, our use of resources has more to do with attitudes and behaviors of all members of society overall rather than size of population. That's just my two cents, not a criticism of your statement.

Hi I'm a 51 yr old mom of 2bio and three non bio grown children. Take it from me it's hard to live on one income. The only way to make it is thrift stores, plannings meals. sticking to a very strick fine line used cars is a must paying cash stay away from credit cards. If you don't have the money then you do without. There were no top of the line shoes or clothes. Walmart was it. I live in florida child care is about $150.00 a week per child. Something to think about. She might be able to do child care in your home but keep mind alagations can arise and sometimes people get accused of things. As far as fun times we went camping, fishing. There was no money for water parks or bush gardens.I did with out the most because I was home. Then you have to keep in mind if she don't pay her Social Security in if she fell and got hurt no money paid in to draw her retirement or disiablity. Believe me it takes two.
