I studied in the USA and I liked it. That was later . It was After I worked in Switzerland. USA was good at this time. Lot of jobs... And I received a work permit. No tax except to pay what I make in the USA.

Recently I have seen the mess with fatca, Obama care, irs, fbar,.. I would pay more if I stay in usa than staying outside . this mess start in 2008.i didn't know the situation would have turned so badly a few years ago. I had the american dream still in my head like in 1995.

As long I stay far away from USA, I don't need to pay anything to the tax system. I realize than USA job paid **** now and cost of life is now 2 to 3 x times than 15 years ago. so I decided to give up my green card and be on my own. I can still go back to Switzerland, but I have money and as single, the problem for me is to avoid sharks like your irs crooks to take it from my pocket. I didn't sign for this ****.

This is why more and more us person are leaving the country. Even my bank in Switzerland told me usa people look advise to get out of USA.
Once you are out of reach of irs, you can become a temporary tourist and no-one can tax you. You just need to have a Swiss or Australian passport and not be resident. Just tourist.

In fact, if I work in usa, I would make no money as fatca will take all money through diverse tax and consulting fees. The USA system is just good for Nigerian or third world countries citizen who are totally broke and wish to work in a fast food restaurant . guys happy with 7$ an hour... 5$ after tax.

I would have stayed and work in the USA, but not under these actual crap conditions when I lose more than I make. Again, USA is only attractive for the illegals with no educations....

By the way, USA banks tried to enslave me. They told me I can borrow money when they saw my green card.
I asked them why should I borrow when I have money? , duh ! Seem to me that usa people have lost their responsibilities as borrower.

USA is totally disconnected with the world and you want put everybody in your mess. Good luck to you. I m out....

It's so good to see an awakening happening. Most morons on this board have no idea of the implications of FATCA, their own student loan system, and their own two party system. This form of capitalism is every bit as tyrannical as the USSR's version of socialism. Only difference this politburo is run by a banking cartel behind the scenes.

"Americans are a colonized people. Their government represents the colonizing powers: Wall Street, the Israel Lobby, the Military/Security Complex, Agribusiness, Pharmaceuticals, Energy, Mining, and Timber interests." --Dr. Paul Craig Roberts.

Koochi24, are you paying attention to this thread? I have a couple of questions I want to ask you directly.

I would LOVE to get out of the US. I feel strangled here, daily. I am in a catch-22, as well. I owe only 8k left on my student loans, but that is way more than I actually borrowed! I only went to school for a year-long certificate, and it was a TERRIBLE idea. I am in default, and can't find a full-time job in Southern California, to pay my loans back. I can barely pay rent! I am behind on bills, and have to borrow money half the time to survive from family. This place is a sinking ship and it is only getting worse. I would LOVE to be able to get out! My job is at a major corporation, who refuses to give people anywhere near 30 hours (unless you were grandfathered in full-time) so they can avoid paying healthcare. Believe me, this is a multi-national with global presence in every corner of the world making record profits! I have been actively looking for work DAILY when I am not at my part-time job. I am applying for anything that will help pull me above ground. I honestly feel sick with worry every day, that I feel stuck here. Meanwhile, all of my closest friends are Aussies and they really do have a better quality of life. I would LOVE to be able to live there! But I don't qualify to, since I am in my 30's and my skills aren't on the skilled worker list. I just don't know what to do!

All, no need to PM me. If you have questions openly post them here. THe whole point of this is to bring about an awareness. Ask away, but I'm not going to PM with anyone. Put your questions out there. Don't be afraid to be judged because some hard times are coming for Americans and they are going to wake up at some point to a reality you are already aware of.

My situation is very personal, and this is why I PM'd you. I have been in a really happy long distance relationship with an Aussie man for 3 years now, and we would like to get married soon. Issue is, money! My partner fell in love with where I live, and all the neat stuff we always do here, and places we go and see and explore. I don't blame him! Southern California is a LOT of fun! More importantly, my partner adores my family, all the events we annually go to, and his potential dream career is here! That means working in a particular field that is relatively exclusive to the US. This field is VERY small and competitive with SEVERAL recent grads, and a bajillion applicants. I also have worked in this field (game development/programming/art) and it is constantly undergoing layoffs. This combined with way more students in debt from going to Art Institute with game design degrees (and with 140k debt when they graduate) working at these companies in short-term contracts, or just plain looking for work. Things were a lot better in the game industry, even a little over a year ago, so I was all for us both pursuing our careers in it, here. Now, I just want a job that pays. ANY job! That being said, I know he really wants to be here with me, while I think it would be a better long-term move to be in Oz to start our life together there!. With my financial situation I posted above, I cannot even apply for our K1 Fiance visa yet, til I also find full-time work to sponsor him in the US, due to my current economic situation, and being in debt. Meanwhile, he has a really well-paying job back in Aus, but he doesn't particularly enjoy it (or really living in Aus) at all. I constantly talk with him about the state of the economy here, and American politics. This subject is starting to cause tension between us, because I am honestly terrified of the direction the US has been headed in. Its starting to take a toll on our otherwise great relationship, as he is very aware of how I feel and still thinks we should give it a go in the US. He doesn't want us to be/stay in Australia, unless we really HAVE to. I just want to do whats right for us. What kind of advice would you give, if you were a close friend of ours? Is there something I haven't even thought of yet?

Tl;dr - I really, really want to be supportive of his personal goals, but these game companies might not hire him anytime soon with the economy the way it is. Than being said, I know he really wants to try anyway! I want to be supportive of him, because its so important to him. But the REALITY is, many people I know in the game dev industry are also looking for work, with a bit more experience than he will have coming in. Don't get me wrong, he is a VERY talented at what he does. His current employer in Australia sees his talent, and he has been there for years, but he is self-taught and has no formal degree. I realize this isn't a relationship advice thread. This is more of a economic advice question I guess, since it is truly the issue at hand, between us. His family is happy for him and us, since he is excited about the idea of moving here and starting a life with me. I am worried about him being here and then realizing he shouldn't have given up all that he had there, his awesome job, and having to start the process to go back (and perhaps residual tension due to finances). This is all overwhelming me, and I just don't know what to do/think anymore.

Edit: Reason I didn't disclose my relationship stuff in my first post (and my lack of skilled worker status and no real path to moving there outside of marrying my fiance- which we are planning to do anyway, regardless of where we wind up) is because I didn't want to have to discuss this matter in public, initially. If it were just me on my own, all the above would apply. I couldn't just up and move to Australia, as I don't meet the very strict criteria.

I just don't have a lot of faith in where America is headed, at all. I have student debts that have quadrupled that I cannot pay back right now (I am underemployed and in default) with my current situation. I think this part-time/underemployed/unemployed economy, and deregulated power of multi-nationals, is the new norm. I actually looked in this thread just to see if I can actually move to Aus with student debt, if we ever do decide to move there. Then I agreed and resonated with what Koochi24 said, and decided to ask about his opinion in this matter. I just want to do right by my partner and myself in this matter, its a huge decision!

Once I had a student loan. When taking it out, I was concerned that it not be too high to pay off. After graduating college, I got a letter regarding the loan. I contacted the bank, and they arranged for payments over a 3 year period. After 3 years my student loan was paid off. To this day I haven't had any problems with the government or anyone else over the loan. I managed to avoid running to another country.

That is awesome if you have a good job coming out of college. That isn't the case these days. There are way more new graduates than there are actual good paying jobs.

Thankfully I paid mine off a long time ago. This was back when I was more steadfast and responsible with my finances. I knew it was high risk debt and not to be trifled with.
