The elementary schools are excellent. Check out the town website with a google search.
the city has quite a few fields actually.

Well, we are more into arts, museums, ballet than sports, so for us having a field close by is irrelevant....the more we think about it the more we want to walk to everything or use PT, I will never buy a car again, so I we would like to save our cars for out of town trips.

We won't be doing Jersey...taxes for one....We like PA much better.

Thank you much for all the replies....anything helps....

In Europe, I had a monthly bus pass for all the lines, does something like this exists there also, and for trains too? or yearly? I would like not to have to buy it every time I ride it....LOL

Many people in center city use either Philadelphia Car Sharing with PhillyCarShare - Philly Non Profit Car Share Company or Car Sharing, an alternative to car rental and car ownership – Zipcar when they need a car.

some places have parking, many charge monthly fees in center city. if not, street parking is possible in some areas, otherwise, rent a space
Philadelphia Parking Authority - Parking in Philadelphia Information (http://www.philapark.org/findparking/find_parking.aspx - broken link)

monthly passes do exist but you may find tokens cheaper if you actually do walk your kids to school, doctors, etc. a citywide pass with train privileges on weekends is $83...rail passes vary by zone
SEPTA | Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority
cash fare is $2 for buses and subways, $1.55 per token
septa and zip or pcs can be quite effective is they are close by.

Even renters will pay Philly wage tax...it can make a huge difference in your bottom line. I agree with frankgn, as we often do, the wage tax may suprise you. Also, the parking in Philly is horrible; you get 8 mins for 25 cents at a meter kiosk and the PPA will be on you in a second. The arts areas in the city are limited to center city but they are abundent. Just a last ditch...Collingswood has multiple arts crawls, festivals and 2 galleries right in town. There. I'm done!
