"Peebles said he has a few locations in mind in Center City, Northern Liberties and Old City, and along the Delaware River waterfront. Earlier this month, he met with Mayor Nutter, who wants the second casino license to remain in the city"

It was just a weird article. Not sure if they were trying to rep up "America's wealthiest African-American" or bring attention to the city getting another casino license. Probably both, but there no real substance in the article. I just thought it was weird, if you were talking about a location that you "had in mind" wouldn't you make sure it wasn't already owned by another developer who was about to start construction there on their own project? They probably didn't take the time to do anything. They just grabbed Mr. Richest African-American land magnate guy and had him speak about casino projects in Philadelphia and what not.

Fair points; honestly all these casino plans seem rather odd to me

Blatstein's is the only that seems possible right now. He already owns the entire block the old Inquirer building is on which is about the farthest anyone with one of these ideas has gone. I don't think he'll have trouble finding funding either. It would just be a matter of getting the license.

Agreed. We have definitely reached our saturation point with casinos in this area. Not to mention the license thing is getting really old; it could take years to wait on the state to finally grant Philly the license, if it does at all.

Clearly Blatstein and Peebles are wealthy businessmen -- can't they come up with something more original, or at least hire someone to think of it?

But wealthy businessmen aren't typically interested in originality so much as reliable profit. That's one reason why the design professions are so underpaid (and why everyone then complains about how crappy the built environment looks), because developers are usually content to skimp on design/creativity and stick to predictable/vanilla/cheap solutions in order to maximize guaranteed profit margins.

I was really hoping IBX would be looking to get some office space in this building making it 35 or so floors... I think putting no office space at all in this area is a bad idea especially when there are firms looking for over a million square feet of office space combined.
