Frank, if the shooting happened in Philadelphia, and not Aurora Colorado, you would be having a field day.

If you can clearly see that what happened in Aurora is a random act then why can't you see that someone getting shot in Center City is a random act and for the most part there are plenty areas of the city that are safe, Center City being one of them. Sure, things happen from time to time but to point out one random event in an otherwise safe area and claim that area is now dangerous is downright ludicrous.

To claim that 50% of the people killed in the city are just people walking down the street minding their own business. Really? Are you serious?

Anyone from the ghetto parts of North Philly probably couldn't afford to go to most Center City bars anyways.

You live in Newark right now right? If you're fine in Newark you'll be fine in Philly lol. Philly has much more nicer areas than Newark does and the nicer areas are much larger. The ghettos are very similar in Newark and Philly and the crime rates are also pretty similar if I'm not mistaken. The only area i truly ever really avoid is the bad parts of North Philly. The ghetto areas of West and Southwest Philly really aren't that bad and are still intact for the most part. Nothing like North Philly.
Are YOU serious???? Most people from the Ghetto or Ghetto parts of North Philly probably can't afford a bar in CC?????? Listen if they have a reason to be there..., then they're going to be there period point blank. Nobody's gonna mess with him anymore or less than anyone else in the city.

I'm not sure of his age but that's also a qualifier along with his race and style of clothing, where he likes to hang out, party at, and whom he likes to hang with. At a night club, strip club, bar, sports bar, etc; there are knuckleheads. Even being white, Philly's got plenty of what we call "Fighting *****ED White Boyz".
Depending on what section of town and what location their hanging out at, you're gonna run into the "Jersey Shore extra's, the Rocky Balboa wannabe's , the Joe Pesci (Tommy Character) types, your Marky Marks, and your Dennis Leary types of Class A Buttholes". I worked as a bouncer part times before I left Philly in the early 90's and dealt with "Everybody". Trust me the white guys "May" not shoot as quick but will start some shi_ _ over small stuff. I've seen plenty of guys get jumped & stomped, hit with bottles and pool ques, chairs, stools, etc..

In the parking lot of a place I've seen bats, crowbars, canes, clubs, and the like pulled out of trunks and used. Saw a few slashings and guns pulled and fired in the air. Remember those class acts from Moe's Tavern in Fishtown that killed that kid in the parking lot by the stadiums a few summers ago? Saw those scenes a lot in Philly and they still happen, just most don't result in death but many broken bones, sticthes and head & neck trauma.

Yes, I like all that. I'm pale white, prolly from the Russian cold weather. I'm in mid 20s.
And I dress urban usually, no pants hanging off my knees though.

Second, they moved to Mt. Airy? You do know Mt. Airy is still in Philadelphia right?

What was the point of your story?
Heck YEAH I KNOW.... I grew up in Philly. My POINT WAS/IS that JUST like Frankgn87's "Back Story"s as quoted by Marius Pontmercy, Everyone including me has a disappointment or two with a place we've might've resided for awhile or grew up in for most of our lives and have fond memories.

If you didn't understand I'll try to explain a little more in depth, My relatives grew up in that Section of NORTH PHILLY no matter WHAT they Call or Called the neighborhood. I remember it in the 70's & 80's and how rough and worn down it was. Even at 30 grand I thought it was a tad high for their block with a huge vacant log and trash usually dumped by companies from other areas. As it began to "GENTRIFY" and gain a little reputation that same home as well as others more than doubled the price.

When inquiring with the landlord of the rented home she'd lived in for at least 9 years of her life in that rough section of NORTH PHILLY, the landlord said well NOW it's $65,000 because the neighborhood is changing.. It's becoming known as BREWRYTOWN and that's what I want and can get as is.
It STILL was pretty rough looking despite a few new town homes and refurbished houses and the empty lot became a garden with a mural on a wall. To her AND our family it was a joke and still NORTH PHILLY, but she was able to purchase for her mom. (Most who did not own at the time couldn't afford to purchase nor rent in the area after awhile and had to relocate) (Think they headed to Lower Northeast & Olney..)

Roughly 15 years later she was now divorced and single parent back in the city and like her old neighborhood and it's new amenities but her kids hated it... Paying $370-$400,000 & up for any of those homes was not feasible for HER. So MT. AIRY (West) was a better choice... Further commute to CC where she worked but was an alright pacifier for her children..
She nor any of us who grew up with her would've ever THUNK back in the early 80's that this is gonna be a section of NORTH PHILLY that most people living here won't be able to afford to live in 20 to 30 years...

So Summer, this was about a statement made concerning Frank. He needs to find a way to get over it. It still pains me a bit to visit the city and hit a few neighborhoods I've lived in or have had family & dear friends in and see the old factories and department stores, etc; that are gone and the area near ruins.
Same thing that happened to my cousin can happen to Frank and me.., someone could decide that our old areas are the "New Hot Spots" in Philly and 10 years from now we can barley afford it or it's just NOT worth what they're asking in price to live there..

SO you left Philly in the early 90's? Have you been back since? CC has changed drastically and is no where near the same place it was in the early 90's. My point was that most thugs in North Philly won't leave their neighborhood especially to come to a bar in Center City that charges 6 dollars for a beer.

So let me get this straight, are you saying that the neighborhood, in this case Brewerytown, where your family used to live, got better and that's why you are upset?

Or are you saying you are sad to see that Olney has declined? I'm confused.
