This isn't going to help keep the good people in Mayfair:

What a shame.

Looks like they've discoverd the River Wards:

Wawa worker grateful for support after brutal attack

Actually, this sort of thing has been on for years - black and Hispanic thugs cruising these white neighborhoods looking for an easy white "mark."
I know this will be deleted because it's politically incorrect, but facts are facts.

When I was a teen, guys from my neighborhood went to Upenn to harass and beat up the white college kids for no reason just because they were white.

Shhhh ... don't air the black communities' dirty laundry. A lot of blacks don't want that out there and a lot of whites don't want to believe it.
It's better if everybody just buries their heads in the sand.

With mildly gentrifying Port Richmond bordering some more challenged neighborhoods, a situation like this is sadly not outside the realm of possibility. So it would be disappointing but not so surprising if your theory was true.

Of course, no one deserves to be attacked for whatever reason. It is probably easier to solve the problem - on a micro/individual level by relocating than to help tackle the reasons on a macro/citywide level that led to such a horrible act.
