We currently live in Center City, where my wife works. We are planning to move to a main line suburb to reduce my drive to Phoenixville area and my wife can commute to Navy Yard (her office is going to move there). Our first child is on way this year. Can someone help us with the following -
1. Need a small house or apartment, walking distance from Train Station (My wife will take the train) on Main line - Ardmore, Wynewood..Furthest we want to go from city is Bryn Mawr.
2. We would prefer areas with good day care facilities.
3. Rent for a 2 Bed not to exceed $1500 monthly.

What towns should we look? Any good day care facilities that you can recommend?

Thanks.

If you are not going past Bryn Mawr, then your only options are Merion, Narberth, Wynnewood, Ardmore, Haverford and Bryn Mawr. Narberth is a quaint little borough off of Lancaster Avenue and I'd imagine there are a fair number of apartment options in the vicinity. I can't really comment about prices, but I would suggest going to the Pad Mapper website and punching in the addresses of the train stations for the towns mentioned in the first sentence. That website aggregates Craigslist and other apartment listings that have actual street addresses and puts them on a map. I just looked at it for Narberth and there appear to be some 2 bedrooms in your price range.

Default Finally moving....

I posted on this forum a while ago asking for help..
Now, we have a 13 months old son and my wife's office is in navy yard. I work in Phoenixville and we still live in center city. Coming Jan 2014 we want to move.
We have one car now but okay to have two cars. We would need a good daycare for my son...we want a bigger home and are okay to live away from mainline. Rent around $1500-1600..
If you have any suggestions as to where we can live, will be much appreciated.
Thanks.

...

In any event, given your budget, you're probably better off looking away from the Main Line anyway. If you want a larger apartment/townhome/smaller single family home, try looking around Havertown, Broomall, Springfield, or Media for starters.

You might still be able to find something you like in Narberth, Ardmore, or Bryn Mawr, though your dollar will generally stretch further elsewhere.

I understand.

The Main Line is traditionally a cluster of high status suburban towns that follow the the main line of the old Pennsylvania Railroad (google it) and many people get the idea that there is no other acceptable place to live in suburban Philadelphia.

Thanks. I would prefer to live somewhere else to get a bigger place for the same price.
