I remember when Philadelphia University was still "Phila College of Textiles". There still seem to be a good amount of fashion students-it actually changed its name again joining Thomas Jefferson University.

And clothes can be very cheap and still look respectable. It's more that I see people on the streets in sweat pants and $400 sneakers. Not exactly a sign that they couldn't afford sleeves on their shirts or a different material of pants...
I was replying to lots of things all at once - I have a bad habit of hitting the quote button specific people and then going on to other topics.

Villager was made in Philadelphia. There were some well known designers who worked in Philadelphia. Moore College of Art had a fashion design department.

Afaik, before Sidney Kimmel formed the Jones Apparel Group, he was involved with Villager/Lady Bug.
Adrienne Vittadini went to Moore. Pincus Bros.-Maxwell, which was in Old City, at 5th and Race next to the BF Bridge, made Bill Blass' men's suits for many years.

Re: designers. I mentioned Albert Nipon. There was also Willi Smith. Both were born here.

I remember reading an article in the Sunday magazine section of the Inquirer about Betsey Johnson.

There was also a Fiber Design major in the craft department at PCA.

Philadelphia had a long history with textiles.

Ding Ding Ding.

I feel your pain. That is why I am a refugee from the Philadelphia Speaks Philadelphia Forum. I was banished from there because of my crimes of telling the people the truth and not being liberal.

Provide an example of how I "hate on minorities all the time in the crime thread." Please, show me.

My point is: As a straight, white male, I have to be very careful with sharing my views (esp when true) on this forum regarding race, religion and sexual orientation.

And yeah, yeah, yeah freedom of speech has 'consequences,' but certain demographics face harder consequences than others ... and it's not the "protected groups."

Well quite frankly I can do without the "New Yawka's". I find many of them rude.

Like this isn't Arkansas, if they don't like then don't visit New York, the city will get by without them.

Some of it was probably initially driven by cotton production in the south prior to the Civil War.

I wonder if UArts still has that major.

yeah the same old douche bags are still there. It's a liberal echo chamber. They only want to hear people like themselves

and not anyone that contradicts their narratives.
