Drive, Depending on where you are coming from in the Philadelphia area it should take 4-5 hours. Flying may be slightly faster but you will most likely need to rent a car to get around Pittsburgh as the transit system is only good in a few core areas. I make the drive frequently and while it can get boring it is not that bad. Actually if you go in a few weeks the mountains look beautiful as they change colors.

Wait I am confused are you going to Pittsburgh or Philly?

Unless you are speeding and there is no traffic or construction, in my experience, downtown to downtown is a good 5 hours. An eastern Pittsburgh suburb to western Phila suburb could take out a good 30-60 minutes though.

So, not Pittsburgh to not Philly can be done in four hours. Thanks, very helpful.

Pittsburgh to Philly is 5 hours drive for me too. I didn't know EZ-Pass could save you $11. Totally worth getting EZ-Pass for that. The tolls are expensive from Pittsburgh to Philly (and vice versa.)

I can reach Center city from Mount Washington in central Pittsburgh in 4. So yes, it is. Do it 12-15 times a year for nearly a decade and you know when to leave and not hit traffic.

Also, little geography lesson for you, since you seem to pretend you know this route better than me. Bensalem is exit 351 on the turnpike, 25 miles farther than the Philadelphia exit at 326. From Valley forge to the vine street exit is 16 miles, making the trip LONGER than to center city.

Valley Forge is exit 326, Pittsburgh is 57 so the turnpike length is 269 miles. 80 mph would take 3 hours and 20 mins. You can easily make it from downtown Pittsburgh yo the turnpike and the turnpike to center city with minimal traffic in 40 mintues shared.

Not everyone can time the trip between 9pm and 6am. Looking at my GPS right now, from the Valley Forge Interchange, it's 1hr 12min to City Hall and 37 min to Route 1.

Geography fail on your part. Any one going to or leaving from Pittsburgh has to take 376, which is not part of the turnpike and therefore its mileage is not included in your math.

And as others have said, most people can't or won't time that drive to be in the middle of the night so you can blast straight thru at 80mph.

My statement still stands - flying is faster. It may not be fast enough to justify the cost, but that's a different issue.

Ughm no. I said it takes less than 40 minutes to drive from Pittsburgh to Monroeville AND from KOP to Center city. I drive 376 everyday of my life, fyi. If you leave Pittsburgh at 8 am, it's a reverse commute with no traffic outbound on 376, and you will arrive after morning rush in Philadelphia.

Not rocket science to figure that out...

How much is your time worth, and how much do you want to spend? I can get to KAGC, Allegheny County Airport near the city, from suburban Philly in an hour and a half in my plane. Go to your local airport FBO, or call them and see how much a CFI would charge to take you there and back, in a small airplane. It may not be as expensive as you think.

OP the train will bring you to Philly's 30th St Station which is right in the city sandwiched between Center and University Cities.
Yep, but it takes about 7 hours. It's brutal.

If money is not an issue, fly. It's a 20 minute train ride from PHL to Center City. Flying time is about 45minutes. If money is an issue, Drive or bus it. Pretty simple.
