Play nice and I play nice. You said you would give me a pass, not that I need or want one from you. But it sounded lovely. Immediately after that, you throw another challenge and crow when I won't take the bait.

You can't have it both ways.
I think that in the course of that conversation, that wasn't "bait."

Given that I've made much of statistical outliers throughout this discussion, you had an opportunity to prove yourself one with an answer to that question.

And had you not done so, I wouldn't have held that against you, but I would have said that it's typical for white people, for it is.

I'm not always conscious of my prejudices when they come into play on a subject. But I think we all should be conscious of ours, and willing to examine whether they are justifiable or not. (That video from IntegratedSchools.org in the link I posted upthread argues that just about all the time, they're not.)

Edited to add: I think if you were to ask the handful of white people who live in that affluent pocket of my Census tract, you'd find that they don't experience hostility from their black neighbors. Certainly the white members of the half-black, half-white congregation at the Presbyterian church I attend in Germantown don't. (Talk about statistical outliers: about one-tenth of one percent of all Protestant churches in this country have racially integrated congregations. FWIW, the pastor at this church is white, and the associate pastor - an old friend of mine from college days - is black.)

I'm closing this thread down, as the discussion on OP's question actually ended in 2018
