I trust you are a competent driver. I've noticed most New Yorkers (from NYC) drive like reckless idiots, even worse than Philly drivers.

I'm curious... why do Chinese people not seem to mind living in neighborhoods that are heading south? There are a few migrant families that live around me (who did not buy to rent) and they don't seem to care about living next to inconsiderate ghetto types. I guess it's still better than living in Communist China, huh.

Mao Zedong died 43 years ago. Since that time they shifted from a centrally planned economy to a market based one. The very opposite of communism. I got a little glimmer of how they achieved that so quickly because there were Chinese students from main land China going to the Wharton School in the early 1980s. I remembering thinking at the time, "Wow, isn't that interesting... Aren't they supposed to be communists?"

Some Chinese immigrants are probably here illegally so going to poorer areas might be a way to hide.

The Chinese people who have recently moved into my neighborhood are not Wharton graduates and speak very little English. One Chinese family bought the local Jewish delicatessen ("Greenman's") after the original owner retired to Florida. The Chinese family that owns the deli now are very friendly and have made the best of it, but they've been robbed twice at gunpoint... cops never caught them either. They now have security cameras and a direct link to the 15th police district (2 blocks away) in case it ever happens again.
