Actually, the expression would be "said his piece" --- meaning, he said all he had to say on the subject.

Sort of. There are two different but almost identical phrases. "Said his piece" and "Said his peace". The one I used comes from wedding ceremonies where the minister says "speak now, or forever hold your peace."
The OP said his peace.

"Say his piece" (meaning "say what he has to say") and "hold his peace" (meaning "keep quiet") are two different expressions using different words with different meanings.

Here's the explanation, from the experts:

So, the OP said his piece.

A while back I read a debate between english teachers on the two usages (whether "piece" or "peace") and there was no concensus. It wasn't this specifically, but here is a similar discussion: "I said my peace/piece"; which is it? - UsingEnglish.com ESL Forum

In the case of my use, it was the finality of it that made me choose one word over the other. The OP said his "peace", meaning we can close the thread with cessation and truce.

That link is to a discussion forum just like this one. We will just have to agree to disagree, as I think that usage makes no sense. I'll stick with Webster's explanation, thanks.
