I realize that traffic sucks in Phoenix, I have driven in it myself.

I will be working at 19th and Buckeye, about three blocks from the capital according to my new boss. I am trying to find a place to live within a 30 minute drive. I dont want to live in the slum either.

My question is which highway moves better in the morning around 7am. The 51 south, the 17 south or the 10 going north. I have a place in Awutukee picked out that would require me to get on the 10 at Elliot road, or I have a few places picked out in the north up around Paradise Valley or more west off of the 17.

Which one will give me the best commute?

The 10 runs east/west.

17 and the 51 are both terrible southbound during morning rush, unless you have a carpool buddy so you can take the HOV. In the AM, the 10 is heavy eastbound in the west valley and westbound in the east valley. To be honest, all the major roadways are mess in the morning.

I realize they are all a mess. I am simply asking for the best of the worst

10 runs north for a second out of Chandler/Awatukee was what I meant. Would you rather drive down to the city on 51 or 17, or would you rather take 10 out of the Chandler area into the city.

Hmmm, for 19th Ave and Buckeye, 17 is your best bet. It's gonna be slow going southbound until about McDowell where it opens up a bit and a lot of traffic bleeds off into the 10. Yeah, 17 S/B, exit on Grant, eastbound, south on 19th and BAM! If you find someone to carpool with, that ride will be a dream.

I'd stay in tukee. Take 48th street north to baseline, head east, then up 19th ave over the river bottom. Freeways are a mess during the 7am hour. Anywhere that will have your drive time 30-45 minutes to 1200 S 19th ave is not somewhere you really want to live...

What are you doing for work? At the corners of 19ave and buckeye are a jack in the box, an auto parts store, a warehouse business, and the coffelts housing projects...

I'd take the 17, of the two interstates, as well. There seem to be more backups on the 10, and the 17 is a much more direct route to where you are working than either of the other two. If you had to get off and use surface streets due to some problem, it would still be just a straight shot down 19th.

I sell auto parts

So taking Baseline as an alternative is not a bad idea? I seen that on a map, but wasnt sure if it was an option like that.

Otherwise it sounds like the 17 is the best option.

Thank you for the answers everyone.

I used to use Baseline as an alternative, mostly before the 101 and 202 were finished, it wasn't bad. Seemed worse on the way home than in the AM. I'll stick with coming down the 17 for you, though.

I also work in the Capitol Complex area and live 1.5 miles away right downtown. If you're concerned about traffic why not look closer?

I never get on highways, never get stuck in traffic, and never have more than a 7 minute drive and best of all, fill up with gas about once every 3 - 4 weeks.

Good suggestion, except that the price point for rent for you and your SO may be different than the OP's, with what I assume to be one income.
