I'm traveling from Phoenix to Santa Fe. I want to do the trip in 2days stopping midway somewhere. Can you tell me which cities in between are nicest and safest?
Thanks!

Exactly half way would put you in Sanders (on the reservation). I don't think there is a hotel there, and definately nothing to do and nowhere to eat. Holbrook would be before that (about 3.5 hours from Phoenix), leaving you about 4.5 hours to Santa Fe. Plenty of lodging and food there. Gallup would be past half way (~5 hours from Phoenix), and leave you about 3 hours to Santa Fe. The towns are pretty similar in composition being that they are both right next to the Res, although Gallup is larger (18k vs 5k). Lots of nice places to eat in Gallup. I recommend La Barraca or Don Diego's for good New Mexican food. Sammy C's is a nice upscale sports bar down town if you want to go that route. If you want a good breakfast burrito in the morning, La Barraca is the place to get it.

Thanks! I saw Gallup on the map but didn't know anything about it. I appreciate the info on places to eat too!
