Not even close man. I'd say your better off in Alabama. I love that southern culture . I stayed in Gulfport, MS for a while years ago.

I have an older brick home right now that only needs the air on at night (and even then that's just my preference as I don't like sleeping when I'm hot).

I had a masonry home in Tucson for years that only needed the air on in June (IMO the hottest month of the year) It was all tile, had a cool roof, had brick borders around the windows, shades etc. it was perfect for this environment.
I'll make note of that myself. I'm currently in a second floor (top floor)1980's stucco apartment. My a/c's been working since February this year.
I had been in the understanding that the newer stucco homes are more energy efficient than block homes. Than again if they provide more insulation than I could totally see the block homes being cooler. Even dual pane windows, can only make so much difference. In fact, although I'll admit dual pane windows are more efficient, I think the level of added efficiency is greatly exaggerated.

79 downstairs and 78 upstairs. That is way too warm but I don't feel like spending over 500 dollars on an electricity bill.

I would keep the AC at 80 along with the ceiling fans on. To sleep at night, I'd lower it to 76 or 77 (again with ceiling fans on.)

I haven't had mine on yet either. I open some windows at night and the house is usually 67-68 by morning and the hottest it's been inside is 77. I did add more insulation about a year ago which helped a lot along with sunscreens.

I turn it up to 85 at night, close the bedroom door and sleep really cozy with the animals.
I have a window AC. Am thinking about a new portable one for this year.

The old small towns atmosphere is disappointing in many places, Florida has less than it had twenty years back. Same maybe in Arizona. It seems most persons today like the suburban communities with broad busy streets. with restaurants and shopping spread out better than small downtown eatery and shopping.

It is nearly May here and I sill am using central heat, with a bedroom neater on all day. Wish it would warm up soon.

85-86 when I'm gone (no special reason, just want it in the mid-80's somewhere) and when I'm home anywhere from 74-78, usually around 76.

I do find A/C helps with chronic allergies so sometimes I'll turn the temp to the low end listed above for that reason. I rarely set it lower than that, though it has happened! I also use ceiling fans constantly in summer and the home does have shutters, which are a big help.

Ah, summertime. Here we go again!
