Glad to hear you're ok. It can be a daily battle just getting home. There's just so many people here and majority want to get where they're going as fast as they can without regard to others on the road. I am nearly hit everyday by some idiot who's not looking where they're going.

Thanks for all the wishing well guys, I really do appreciate it. I am also sorry about the spelling error of the word 'brakes', what was i thinking? lol
Oh I know, I was still a bit shaken up and decided to take a few IB Motrins and fix myself a strong drink.

I was more mad then scared or nervous, then it somehow changed to gratitude for being alive because it really could have been a lot worse.

Funny thing is I am almost always on full alert, even when I am driving my car (thanks to having to ride bikes that way), I was neither sleppy nor drinking so I was quite alert but that intersection going North on 40th must have a bad view or something because I really did not notice the van until it was too late. He was really fast but still on most roads that crosses my path I have at least a few hundred yards visibility but that was not the case.

Anyhow, I didn't mean to blame the Valley for this, though never this bad, back in So Cal, I came close to becoming a bumper sticker on 2 different SUVs driven my (you guessed it) cell phone chatting soccer moms!
So people who shouldn't be driving are everywhere but I have never before seen a red light runner that was also speeding like a maniac.
But as someone stated already, my biggest disappointment was the lack of police existence and also how evasive they were when we tried to flag 2 of them minuntes later. I guess if there is nothing salvagable or injured/dead bloody bodies around, going wherever the heck they were is more important.
You flag a cop in CA, they'd always stop even if it was just to ask for direction etc, they would tried to help....

I won't stop riding, it will take more than this to shy me away. I enjoy riding and even if it means I have to develope spider sense to ride then so be it!
The problem might be due to the time and day as well, weekend evenings, side streets are almost always the most dangerous, no matter where you are, people often drive the worst. Plus the drinking plus the lesser number of cops on the streets or whatever. I will have to wait till the weather cools a bit more so I won't have to ride so darn late!
As far as my foot goes, it hurts but I am sure it is not broken. I got strong bones and since I can step on it and walk, I will walk it off. Funny I was more concerned with checking the bike the next day than my own health.

Anyhow, I just wanted to share the incident and vent a bit. Thank you all for you understanding...

Sounds like something would be done at the police station if cops were flagged and they ignored you. Maybe they just didnt see you? Any real police officer should have seen the accident before you would have had to flag him unless he already had something going on which isnt much of an excuse anyways.

Glad you're ok anyways!

Default near miss

This was my first motorcycle accident. This stupid driver in a white van hit the breaks the second I hit the breaks but I knew and he knew that he was gonna run right into my so he swirled to the left just enough to miss me by inches while I was laying the bike down after couple seconds of breaking.

I was only going like 30/35 and since it was full green to me I didn't think about slowing down and I wasn't even fast anyhow but this pyscho came out of nowhere and due to buildings and other stuff around the corner of the intersection I don't think I could see him any sooner.

Anyways, he slowed then and even stopped a few hundred yards down the road and then slowly drove off and disappeared!

A few young fellas who witnessed the incident came to help but by then I was already up and moving the bike off the road. Thank for nothing major happened to me or the bike. I was shaken up and pissed at first but later, I was glad because if he had hit me, this guy would probably be no longer posting on this forum....ever!!
Minutes later I got the bike to start and made it home. Several scratches and bruises and my left foot is pretty messed up, may be even broken cause it hurt like hell but overall I am OK.

I sure am glad to be alive!
per california dmv stats, 16 times more probability of fatality on a motorcycle than in a car.

PS. 2 cops drove by minutes later but despite all our signaling, they saw us but none stopped! Weird...
per californa dmv statistics. person on a motorcycle 16 times more prone to fatality in an accident than in a car.

The Ninja riders I will agree with-------most of the Harley crowd are pretty damn careful though.

Glad you're OK, TurcoLoco.

What irks me is that the driver of the van didn't stick around to find out if you were OK. It's one thing to be an idiot and not pay attention to red lights, but to leave the scene of an accident is a completely different matter.

The van driver probably didn't have a license and/or insurance.

So glad you are o.k. Really sorry you went through that. I've noticed speed and red light running are a huge problem here in AZ.
