Why do people here insist on distorting travel times?

Best answer I've ever come up with is "because".

I have gotten home to Mesa from Escondido in about 5 hours and 15 minutes once. Those other places all seem feasible, too. San Diego: 355 miles so closer to 6 hours for most. Las Vegas: 287 miles, so around 5:30, GC: 234 miles.

I agree. It really depends on a lot of factors. Where you live in the Valley can impact your travel time considerably. The day and time you depart matters too. When I lived in north Glendale, it literally took me 4 hours from my home to the parking lot at Luxor. Granted it was a Friday afternoon and there was no traffic and we drove 85 mph-90 mph consistently the entire way but it is feasible.

However, I do agree people tend to exaggerate travel times overall particularly in the Valley.

Damn you've beat me. Whenever I drive to Vegas for a weekend, I usually leave on Friday and invariably get stuck in construction/accident area/traffic so it almost always takes me about 5 hours. I think the fastest I've ever made it from my house in Scottsdale to the parking area at Bellagio was 4 hours 35 minutes.

From my place in Goodyear SD is 5 hours almost on the button, GC about 4 1/2. LV is unpredictable but not much more than 5. We rarely get those times though as we stop for various reasons. I could see an hour more or somewhat less depending on how much "city" you have to go through.

The discussion was about moving to Phoenix, not Goodyear. I was reacting to the part about LA and SD. Per Google maps the trip to both of these places from Phoenix is about 6 hours. 4-5 hours is a 17-33% exaggeration. I guess you could do it if you drove 90 all the way.

We actually came down this week and found a house we love in Goodyear. Phoenix seems like a great city, Goodyear seems like a great suburb, and we are looking forward to being there.

Do you really think Riverside would be a lot better than Phoenix?

I like the Moon Valley area but don't have any data about living there.
