I like Phoenix. Always have. A lot of people do.

Actually I have liked every place I ever lived. Well maybe not so much Cleveland, and Pacoima was sure iffy back in 1960, but all have good and bad. Come to think of it I liked Pacoima a lot.

I have a very hard time believing people like Phoenix when the state of Arizona has a VERY bad reputation known around the country. Thats the truth.

Isnt perfect? Dude, I cant think of one single redeeming quality about Phoenix, except the warm winters. Nothing else. Have U every lived anywhere else? The Places Rated Almanac of last year ranked Phoenix as the 5th WORST metro are in the country to live based on air quality, education, economic stability, employment and safety. If you consider that a good place to live, then more's the pitty.
Wow Norm, there has to be some reason why 5 million or so people live here. If it was the dump that you describe, people would be flocking out of here in droves and that isn't the case.
Sure, it isn't perfect but it sure is better than a lot of places for many reasons.
It sounds like you need to move somewhere more to your liking.

Last 3 years were pretty bad, with rain straight from October 2010 until August 2011. My family is pushing Chicago so we might go there, but I am more interested in considering PHX, not before I see it. It is interesting that people love it or hate it.
I would try Austin out of the three.

Yup, born and raised and still kicking it here. I've been elsewhere and wouldn't stand a chance in other places. Phoenix maybe the sixth biggest city in the U.S. but atleast its not congested like most cities. It really depends on where you live in Phoenix. If you live in places like Maryvale then you'll most likey end up with a bad experince, but if you live in places like Scottsdale, Paradise Valley or even east Phoenix then its a lot more pleasant. Sure theres a big difference in costs but thats all based on your status.
