You're going against the grain, everything I read here in city-data forum indicates all Latinos are Mexicans, are illegals, are drug users, oh and they all have "chebbies", etc. etc.

Recent reports, IIRC, have been that the numbers coming over are DOWN substantially, not five times more.

I've heard/read many times that the policy is to not deport any illegal that has not committed a serious crime. Now what is considered a "serious crime" seems to be a moving target. Not to mention the many sanctuary cities. An undeclared moratorium is still a moratorium isn't it? How else do we explain the self described "undocumented" people that have been protesting recently in Phoenix daring Sheriff Joe to do something, arrested and released instead of deported?
Just one report I found doing a quick search.
From WSJ:
In a surprise announcement, the Obama administration said it will review the deportation cases of 300,000 illegal immigrants and might allow many of them to stay in the U.S., a decision that angered immigration hard-liners and pleased Hispanic advocacy groups.

Under the plan, federal authorities will review individually all cases of immigrants currently in deportation proceedings. Those who haven't committed crimes and who aren't considered a threat to public safety will have a chance to stay in the U.S. and to later apply for a work permit

It depends upon who is counting the numbers and how creative they get:

"There is a certain level of insanity to all of these numbers. Because, it seems, showing that large numbers of illegal aliens are entering the country may alarm the populace (especially today), and so the numbers are to be kept low. How are the numbers kept low? The US Border Patrol Agent in the field is tacitly encouraged NOT to apprehend illegals. Yes, just let them through. The logic is that if the statistics show a low apprehension rate then -- by multiplying by four -- the number of illegals entering the country must also be lower and thus the US Border Patrol is doing its job."

Could Latino voters turn Arizona blue? - CNN.com Video

I don't know if we are still deporting as much but I do know things are changing on the other side of the fence. Not sure what will come of this.

The numbers coming in are down. The numbers going out are up. The reason doesn't matter. What is right does.

Legal Immigration is fine, at a rate that the economy can support. ILLEGAL immigration is not good. I see crimes committed by ILLEGAL immigrants all the time in IL.
-Domestic Battery (this is a big one)
-DUI (also a big one)
-ILLEGALS having fake social security cards
-Driving with no license, suspended/revoked license
-Burglary
-Hit and run(also a big one as alot of them have no insurance)
the list goes on.

ILLEGAL immigrants also costs taxpayer dollars in healthcare costs, incarceration costs, and education costs.

ILLEGALS aren't just "busboys" or "working in fields". They are doing jobs Amercans still do, not jobs that we "won't do".

-Factory work
-Construction (carpentry, labor, pluming, painting, etc)
-Auto maintenance
-Janitorial work/maintenenance
-Food service/production
The list goes on...

Anti-ILLEGAL immigrant is not to be associated with Anti-LEGAL immigrants.
Anti-ILLEGAL immigrant is not to be associated with being RACIST. We wouldn't want 20 million ILLEGAL germans here either. Lets be honest.
