When I go to the Asian Cafe Express I will have to make a day out of it and try all the Chinese food in the area, yum!

Default From Boston and feel your pain!

I'm originally from Boston and many years back went for a visit with my husband who is a native of Phoenix. We went to this little whole in the wall Chinese place called Take Out #5 (there are no 1 to 4 - never could figure out why they called it that) that I used to go to at least once a week. My husband had no idea what great Chinese food tasted like until that day. I have lived in Phoenix for almost 20 years now and have yet to find a place to completely satisfy the craving. However for the past 10 years or so we have been ordering from Ming's Pagoda at 19th Ave and Cactus. It is the only one out of many that we have tried that tastes decent. They are also the only one that makes egg foo young like back east with the meat inside the patty instead of on top in the sauce with a plain egg patty. The patty is thick and moist unlike most places where the patty resembles a hockey puck in appearance and taste. Their fried rice and appetizers are good too. We have found and liked many single menu items from different restaurants but for the whole package we will keep ordering from Ming's.

Does Ming's serve "Boston-style" brown lobster sauce? I've never been able to find that anywhere outside New England.

PF Changs is not Chinese food.

Szechwan Garden on Ray Rd. in Chandler is pretty close to the real thing. The owner used to work at Szechwan Palace in the Chinese Cultural Center, which is no longer as good as it used to be.

They have a shrimp with lobster sauce that I have tried and is good but don't know if it is "Boston" style.

Have you tried Asian Hong Kong at the NW corner of Ray and Rural? I've never been to China, but it seemed very authentic and very good to me.
