We have been looking in Gilbert to relocate. Let me preface that I'm not judging , just making a casual observation. Just noticed that there is a Church of Juses Christ Latter day Saints like every other block it seems.... What am I getting myself into? Is it a very religious community?

There is a higher per capita of LDS types in Gilbert than other places. Personally I would be comfortable with my own type (my own background is not religious and I'm multi-ethnic so I am comfortable in open and diverse communities), so I would not blame them.

I doubt very much they are every other block, though they stand out because the architecture is similar. Someone has posted statistics here before indicating that Mormons are not near a majority of the overall population, though the mayor/city council are majority LDS. More likely than not, you will be moving into an area with very good neighbors, as LDS families seem to be.

I feel like there are a lot of churches all over the Phoenix area, it does seem like there is one on every corner.

I've also posted several times that I used to live in Gilbert. I am not LDS. At no time did I ever feel out of place, nor was I treated poorly or notice anything odd. And observer53 is correct, the LDS family across the street were very good neighbors.

They arrange their congregations geographically and limit the size of these individual congregations, so you see them scattered throughout communities, rather than mega-churches like many other denominations have.

On the other hand, Gilbert is consistently ranked one of the safest communities of its size in the nation. It's a great place to raise a family, but not considered a hot spot for young singles.

Yes. LDS is an abbreviation of the full name of their church - The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. LDS or Mormons for short.

They're worldwide, so are all over the U.S., but since their headquarters is in Utah, they're probably more noticeable in the Southwest and Mountain West.

I am not a Mormon but I have known a few members of both the LDS and the traditional Mormon Church. I am sure you can have a member of either group explain their doctrinal differences. From what I have heard their is a dispute in Doctrine between followers of Joseph Smith and Brigham Young. And that is about all I know about the topic.

There is just one Mormon church. They are referred to informally as either LDS or Mormons. This thread is not about offshoots or the church or discussion of doctrine - just relocation to Gilbert.

I have spent way too much time looking at maps of Gilbert neighborhoods via Google maps. Google is very detailed which is great. Retail stores, schools, parks and houses of worship. I just happened to notice how many LDS churches there were. Not saying good or bad... just an observation ( how's that for politically correct?)
