Driving through intersections with flashing YELLOW left-turn arrows.

Driving through intersections with flashing left-turn arrows - YouTube

With this new control light being added to the streets around the area what do you think of them? I’ve noticed that in Scottsdale it’s a little more confusing because they have the lagging green left-turn arrows and in other valley metro cities it the green left-turn arrow first.

Do you like ‘em or hate ‘em?

If I see these in Phoenix or anywhere in AZ I will lol. These will make night driving much easier, that's for sure.

Yes, they are great for night driving, but I don't think they are a good idea during peak traffic hours. So far I have only seen them at night and think it should stay that way.

I think it will just confuse people and possibly even lead to more accidents.

Anything new is confusing to some, especially yellow flashing arrows. Accidents will occur as yellow means slow down stop that it's changing to red and many people speed up on yellow to beat the red, others stop and get rear-ended.

This isn't rocket science. I was traveling to the MVD yesterday afternoon on Paradise right off Scottsdale Rd. There is a left-turn flashing arrow from southbound Scottsdale onto Paradise. People seemed to do fine. Everyone pulled out in the intersection when it was their turn and safely crossed traffic when it was clear. I think most people know that a solid red light means stop, flashing red light indicates that you need stop before proceeding, solid and flashing green means go, flashing yellow means proceed with caution, and solid yellow means prepare to stop. This is used in many other cities, I don't why this should be reserved for night-use only here. They need to be used on a wider scale basis to get people accustomed to how they work.

On a side note, I wish drivers here would learn how the HAWK signals, the mid-block pedestrian crossing lights, work. You stay at a complete stop when the lights are solid red. Once the lights start blinking red AND the crossing is free of pedestrians, you treat it as a stop sign. There are too many people here who wait until the blinking red stops completely to resume driving.

These are basic traffic movements that are listed in most any driving manual. I can't understand why people have such a hard time with something as basic as a traffic light.

We have a few of these in MN, they put up signs that say "Yield to oncoming traffic on flashing yellow arrow"
People got used to them very quickly and I love them because I hate red arrows
