It is very difficult to give children much of a childhood these days. Just try and take a day and avoid bad language, sexual inuendo, scantily clad women, extreme violence and the rest. It really is the case of give them an inch and they take a mile. Much of what is acceptible now would not have been tolerated in 1975 and what was going on in 75 would not have been acceptible in 1945. So in 2035 when VS has giant picturs of models in simulated sex acts with the lingere falling to the ground will be no big deal I guess. Who will be the prude then?

I could care less what people want to see or do in their own private space but I don't need to have conversations with my 3-5-7-9 yr olds about ho's, *itches, and giant boobs. We are consitantly dissapointed in the decisions other parents make when clothing their young girls. The vocabulary they determine is acceptible, what topics somehow come up in prime time tv shows and what movies and cartoons are appropriate for young children.

You want to see the big beautiful models, go for it take a few steps into the store and enjoy. You may even see me in there buying a gift for my wife. But calling someone a prude and critisizing their dcision to protest because your moral standards are on a different plane is just narrow minded. Which ironicly is probably what you think of the protesters. I guess it depends on what your perspective is.

As far as bad language, sexual innuendo, etc., all that and more was happening full force in 1975. That was when the sexual revolution was going strong. Drugs were a topic of concern. Movies like "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" were highly popular, where the "f" word was uttered regularly.

In 1945, standards were a little more strict ... but even in the 1930s & '40s, there was a good share of sexual innuendo. Mae West regularly made risqué comical lines in her movies. In one of the Marx Brothers' films, there was a scene where a tatoo image of a scantily clad woman was being exploited. A cartoon called "Red Hot Riding Hood" featured a wolf being aroused by a sultry nightclub singer. "It's a Wonderful Life" had a part showing gambling halls and topless bars in the town. These were motion pictures shown to a general audience, and nobody objected. Heck, women back then were viewed as sex objects probably more so than now. They were referred to as "dames" and "broads" back then ... and it seemed to be accepted with no protest. Try calling a woman a "dame" or a "broad" nowadays, and it will be considered highly offensive.

Yes, times have changed, but images that arouse the senses of an average male have always been around, and they always will be. It doesn't make any sense to be so politically correct, or call for government action against private business just because of a small minority who think they are holier than everyone else. If you don't like images of beautiful ladies showing off their assets, don't look!

I posted this question on the Phoenix page, but thought it better suited for the Gilbert page,

I attended Highland High School in 99 and quickly realized even though the sign said PUBLIC SCHOOL this was indeed a PRIVATE school. I was one of 15 non mormons that attended school there (out of 2500), this included faculty. The students were allowed to leave school for an hour a day to attend Siminary Class off campus, while the rest of us had a "STUDY PERIOD" we would watch movies and basically do nothing, great tax dollars at work!!!! is this normal for other parts of AZ?

Mormon children leaving to go to a seminary class during the day at a public school here in Peoria is not normal; it does not happen. I think it's the same throughtout the majority of Phoenix, but don't know for sure.

Mormon children leaving public school for a seminary class might be true in large mormon populated cities like Gilbert, Chandler, and Mesa...hopefully others will advise.

My experience in Tempe in the late '80s was that LDS students took a release hour (just as any student could) to attend seminary. With students on the college track, this often meant that they were also taking a zero hour class or summer school or both in order to fit in 4 years of English, mathematics, science, foreign language, music, and required social science/ health/ PE classes.

Many students (particularly juniors and seniors) took their required courses in the morning and then took releases in the afternoon so they could work.

At the time you were required to have something like 20 credits to graduate, but there were six class hours in a day and four years of class...

People need to get informed about why there are laws protecting children against porn materials, even the VS soft porn ads. It's a class 6 felony in Az to have any such material accessible to minors. The problem is bc not too many people apply the law correctly or don't report violations, we grow to think the law does not apply or is archaic. It's a myth that the material has to be total nudity for it to be illegal. The statute recognizes the 'impending of the act' in the content, pose, attire or writings of the material. Even sexual words are not to be accessible to minors either by purchase or just seeing it on the news stand.

I am not a VS protestor but I do want the freedom to share with my child such delicate material at age appropriate times when they are mature enough to handle it, not when someone in our culture thinks they should be ready for it (so much for the needs of the individual). Our culture is so instant-gratification driven that it's lost site of why this material is meant to be private and personal; and, none of us are willing to forgo public access and viewing of sensual material for the sake of those who it is not intended for, namely children.

Also, such images at the wrong age are also defiling to children (research the latent stage of child development, ages 5-12), even the psychologists acknowledge this. Let them be kids without cramming erotica into their heads.

Face it, they ain't selling a bra - they're selling mental adultery using the model's expression and alluring position to sell a fantasy.

Why should a child's right to be protected be any less important bc someone else doesn't care about airing bedroom material on a billboard? Since when is someone else's apathy more important than those it affects?

Just bc not everyone wants that material crammed down their thoat doesn't mean they are a prude or someone who does not want to teach their children that the body is beautiful. It just means we teach it when it's appropriate and society can not determine the individual's best for that when culture tries to 'treat the herd' with this type of material. Not all natural or beautiful things (i.e. going to the bathroom) should be done in public.

>>>On another note, state law allows students to attend seminary classes off campus regardless if they use it or not. The original law was developed by LDS legislators and such to provide this opprotunity for LDS students to attend their studen centers which are right next to most campuses. I'm not LDS, but I went to college at ASU with previous LDS prophet/leader Kimbel's granddaughter who told me.
