Ate there for the first time today. While it was good, I can't see what all the hype is about.

This may sound insane but after I get home from deployment, I'm actually going to drive to Phoenix from El Paso with the wife so we can eat there...

As native Chicagoans, there are certain styles of food we miss.

There's really nothing special about their burgers in terms of ingredients or preparation, I just think the way it tastes fresh is what sets it apart.

The Chicago style hot dog is an acquired taste, IMO. I love the style but not everyone does, I know there are a lot of folks who put ketchup on their dogs but you don't with a Chicago style dog.

As for Italian Beef, Portillo's isn't bad, it's not my preferred place, though as I've found a few places in Chicago taste better to me.

But when you get a craving, you get a craving...

Yes of course it's the real deal... it's a god send that they opened up two of them in Metro Phoenix.

If you don't eat hot dogs, that's fine, but others do, and that's for another thread in another forum. I agree that people's pictures of their food often do not look like what is actually on the plate. I have had a hot dog from there, and it looked and tasted just fine... to me. By the way, one of those pictures was, I assume, Italian beef, not a hot dog at all.

Lol, Portillos is a Chicago institution. It may not be the best, but that is really subjective. They have great food at a decent price, don't like it don't eat it. Having lived and visited various parts of the Southwest most places I have visited had no idea how to make a real Italian Beef, Chicago style hot dog, etc.

I love Portillos....but every time I come to Phoenix I eat at least one meal at Weinerschnitzel...last one here closed up 35 years ago....their chilli cheese dogs are the bomb.

I always joke with the workers that I flew 2000 miles just eat there...lol

By the way...are the double L's in Portillo's silent or do you say the L sound?
