Many landlords won't care, but if you get someone who does care, you'll be out in 30 days or less, with an eviction on your credit report. Best to find a landlord who allows them in the beginning. The only thing harder than finding a landlord who allows dogs, is finding one who allows recent evictions and dogs..

Thanks! I'd never lie on my application anyway. Could you tell me how it works if I have the dog classified as a "service" dog? I got her for my son who has high functioning autism because she's a great companion for him and keeps him calm. In Florida the landlords have to allow the animal if it's a service dog. How does that work in Arizona?

you need a letter/documentation from a "reliable source" stating that the animal is a service animal - a shrink/social worker, etc. you can't just proclaim your animal is a "service animal" yourself. The landlord can't question you about the claimed disability, but they can require documentation & deny your app if it isnt provided. That isn't state law, it's federal/fair housing. landlords cant charge "pet rent" for service animals either.
